Colonia del Sacramento | San José | Montevideo | Punta del Este

01 Colonia del Sacramento - San José

Ferry crossing with the „Buquebus“ line from Buenos Aires to Colonia del Sacramento (without guide assistance).

After arrival guests receive their rental car at the port of Colonia del Sacramento. They can explore the little town on their own or book in advance a city walk attended by an english speaking local guide.

After exploring Colonia guests will drive in there rental car around 90km to reach the Estancia Finca Piedra, located at the foot of the Mahoma mountains near the small city of San José. At the Estancia guests have to opportunity to relax, enjoy excellent organic food, go riding in the surrounding mountains or savor excellent own-produced wines.

02 San José - Montevideo

In the morning ride through the mountains to enjoy the picturesque landscapes from the horseback.

After lunch free time to attend activities offered by the Estancia, like fishing, hiking, etc.

After a small snack with coffee, tea and home made cookies guests will drive around 125km to reach Montevideo.

03 Montevideo

Day at leisure for own activities.

Optional: City tour through the manifold Montevideo or visit of the winery Bouza inclusive winetasting and lunch.

04 Montevideo - Punta del Este

Drive by rental car around 134km to Punta del Este, the favorite seaside resort at the Uruguayan Atlantic coast.

On the way guests can make a stop at Piriapolis. The town was founded by alchemist Francisco Piria and offers interesting sights, like the Castillo de Piria (former private residence of the alchemist) and the Pan de Azúcar hill. Cerro San Antonio offers beautiful views over the coast and can be reached by car or chairlift. 

Near Punta del Este guests can visit Casapueblo, the former residence and atelier of artist Carlos Páez Vilaro (dead in February 2014). The museum exhibits artworks of Páez Vilaró, inspired from the Uruguayan carneval and the afro-uruguayan culture.

05 Punta del Este

Guests explore Punta del Este on their own or relax at the hotel.

Optional: Visit of Colinas del Garzón. After an explanation about the history and production of olive oil guests will make a tour through the olive plantation. The highlight will be an olive tasting with fresh bread, cheese and wine.

06 Punta del Este - Montevideo

Drive along the coast to drop off the rental car at the port or airport of Montevideo. Extension program or individual homebound flight.

Optional: Ferry crossing by "Buquebus" line to Buenos Aires.
